Choosing Your Photographer.

I wrestled with this title for quite a while. Some of the alternates were, “ Defining Yourself for the Perfect Photographer” and “Who are You and Who is Right for You?”. Now the current title is certainly a blander version but seemed to be more to the point. That is, finding the photographer that fits the real you.

What makes the process of choosing the right photographer so difficult? Well it’s a number of things. First, the choices seem endless. Second, the time frame and pressure to choose is stressful. Thirdly, you’re probably making decisions that will affect your family and personal relationships and it’s freaking you out. And, oh yeah, “THE BUDGET”. What is a Bride/Groom to do?

Well what I suggest is first to do some research about the kinds of imagery that attract your attention. There is photographic imagery everywhere. Don’t just define it by wedding examples. Are you attracted to intimate and romantic imagery? Do your tastes lean toward quiet moments of solitude? How about bright, high energy images or landscapes and moody sky’s? Is your taste soft and gentle or raucous and loud.

How do you feel about quality vs quantity? And how much influence is foisted upon you by others? I know the list seems endless but as you devote more and more effort to defining your likes and dislikes, your tastes, your desires and needs you will begin to define the real you. And the closer you get to understanding the real you the easier it will be to choose not only the perfect photographer but also the perfect DJ, the perfect planner, the perfect band etc, etc, etc.

Do yourself a favor. Spend some time soul searching and defining who you are and what is truly important to you. I think that if you do that as a first step the rest will fall into place. Having a clear picture of who you are will go a long way in helping you identify the right photographer for you.

Wishing you the Best!
