Setting The Tone Of Your Event With Background Music Choices
Posted by djnetwork in Music, Tips & Suggestions, Wedding on December 5, 2010
So exactly who wants to hear 2 hours of Kenny G or instrumental jazz fusion at their wedding for social hour and dinner? Sure, there are those that want to set that tone, but you don’t have to play a “standard mix of jazz favorites” at your wedding.
Imagine how different things would feel at your wedding if during social hour, you played a mix of Jimmy Buffett, Shaggy, Bob Marley and Jack Johnson? What about some of those long lost hits of the 80′s – Katrina and the Waves, Eurythmics – Sweet Dreams, Modern English – I Melt With You, Prince – Kiss.
What about an hour of Spanish guitar music? Or a mix of Italian “mob hits” classics such as Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra? How about set more of a piano bar sing along style feel to social hour? Play KT Tunstall – Black Horse and The Cherry Tree, Stevie Wonder – Boogie On Reggae Woman, Uncle Cracker – Follow Me, Billy Joel – Piano Man and Elton John – Tiny Dancer.
The fact is – every event is different and Kenny G’s greatest hits is not always the appropriate answer for your event. I’ve had clients that were big Beatles fans or loved acoustic alternative rock – you name it and we can work with your interest and create the perfect feel to the start of your event.

Marty Q – Table For 2
I have been a fan of Saxman Marty Q’s brand of Smooth Jazz for a very long time – from his “Unspoken” collection and even 1997′s “Sentimental Christmas” shows his mastery of the saxophone.
As a local musician, his live performances are a pleasure to see and with his friendship notwithstanding, this talented New Englander deserves to be ranked alongside artists like Najee, Richard Elliot & George Howard. His new collection “Table For 2″ brings him to those realms.
The title track, written by Marty Q, “Table For 2″ is already getting favorable reviews in the local press, gathering steam on Billboard and is currently in rotation on Rich Edwards “SmoothGrooves Radio Show” on GFM 96.6 FM in Gloucester, England.
Producer Chris “Big Dog” Davis has put together a fine production of sweet sounding lush grooves, sprinkled with some neat vocals. My favorites being the stand-out “I Need You” featuring Phil Perry and the cover of the Gamble-Huff classic Diana Ross & The Supremes “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me”, featuring Selena “Princess” Gibbs.
All in all a great addition to any musical collection – I will certainly be adding many of these tracks for Cocktail Hour & Dinner Music selections.
You can download the CD “Table For 2″ on iTunes or by contacting Marty Q via email marty@martyq.com or on Facebook.
