The Farmington Gardens

Over the last few years a number of banquet facilities have cropped up in the Farmington Valley area.  The latest is The Farmington Gardens, located along Route 4, at 999 Farmington Ave., in Farmington.

On my brief walking tour of the facility, I was reminded that this was once a garden center, now transformed into an elegant ballroom.

Philip Chabot is the General Manager and he seems to have made a commitment to having a facility catering to the wedding clientele.  Although, there is more than enough room for bar and bat mitzvahs and corporate events, seating 340 guests in the main dining room, plus another 130 in the greenhouse room.

The exterior boasts a stone patio, off the greenhouse room, leading to an expansive lawn and manicured garden, which will be beautiful for those formal Bridal pictures.

We wish The Farmington Garens much success and look forward to performing in this facility in the near future.

Wedding Mistakes You Can Avoid

Here’s a story for you – the names have been changed to protect the innocent:

Susan and Mark had always wanted a unique location for their wedding reception.  They found the perfect wedding location near the couple’s home overlooking the Connecticut River Valley.  The view was magnificent, the garden area was beautiful and reception area, with the view, was tented…. what more could you ask for with a June wedding!!

The deposit was paid; the entertainment, the caterer and photographer all where reserved for the day.  Then they started looking at churches…

The churches in the area would not agree to marry them because they weren’t members.  The one church that could was already booked on their date. The only available place that an officiant could use was a old school house with air conditioning.  It seemed as if the facility grounds would have to serve as Ceremony location.

Their parents were outraged that Susan & Mark weren’t getting married in a Catholic church.  The couple faced the painful decision of dealing with parental rage and an ugly, overheated old school house or losing a large chunk of change in lost deposits.

If you are planning a ceremony in a location separate from your reception, make sure you can find an available, acceptable church or space BEFORE you book your facility.

If you have your heart set on a particular church, minister or officiant, make sure that they are open before you put down your deposit.  Otherwise, you can find yourself facing some tough decisions.

But there’s more to the story… Of course, Susan & Mark imagined their wedding day on a perfect sunny June afternoon.  Instead, they ended up with a monsoon.

The Ceremony had to moved under the tent, which meant the caterer could not set up the way they wanted. They didn’t have sides for the tent, so the guests got soaked.  The entertainment moved onto the tiny dance floor to protect the equipment, which meant there was no room for dancing.  Everyone slogged through the mud for five miserable hours.

Before you chose your location, consider the worst case scenario.  Rainstorm?  Heatwave?  Snow?

Make sure your comfortable with your ceremony and reception location in EVERY possible situation, so whatever Mother Nature throws at you, you can still hold up.  Remember, you cannot fight Mother Nature, so if everything is going pear-shaped you HAVE to go with the flow…..

If you watch out for these mistakes, having an unforgettable wedding day, where everything runs smoothly and you have the time of your life is almost assured.

Wickham Park, East Hartford, Ct – New Ceremony Location

There’s no shortage of great locations for an outdoor wedding ceremony in Connecticut.

So it came as no surprise when one of our clients mentioned last year, when they booked with us, that they would be having a Ceremony & Reception at Wickham Park.

Located in Manchester, but stretching into East Hartford, with 250 acres of picnic areas, open fields, woodlands, ponds and gardens ~ it’s one of my favorite places.

So, it was with a bit of a surprise and excitement to find out that they’ve added a new wedding ceremony location near The Cabin overlooking the Hartford skyline.

The park opened in April and Atmosphere Productions clients Chris & Elizabeth were kind enough to take some pictures of the new location. Thanks for the pictures and we look forward to your reception in July.

Officiant: Rev. Dr. Robert Henderson

Outdoor ceremonies are inherently difficult events to pull off successfully.   Location, noise and Mother Nature are just a few things that come to mind that are totally uncontrollable.  But, when you have an officiant who is knowledgeable, works incredibly well with event coordinators, family members and the Bride & Groom, then your chances of success are that much greater – Rev. Dr. Robert Henderson is such an officiant.

Rev. Dr. Robert Henderson is an Ordained Protestant Minister with 41 years of experience, who performs wedding ceremonies throughout Connecticut.  He officiates Interfaith Ceremonies, Single Religion Ceremonies, Same-Sex Ceremonies and Non-Denomination Ceremonies.

We highly recommend Rev. Dr. Robert Henderson and the many ceremonies that he has worked with Atmosphere Productions we have found him to be prompt, timely, knowledgeable about protocols relating to microphones and sound, and above all showed a natural affection for what he was doing.

In explaining what makes him a better choice to officiate ceremonies, Rev. Dr. Robert Henderson says:

“I do not believe in long ceremonies, so generally they last about 30 minutes, unless the couple chooses otherwise.  I work with each couple on their  wedding ceremony so that each ceremony is unique and reflects  who they are.  I enjoy getting to know the couple before their wedding during the various times we meet.  I believe weddings should honor the romantic and spiritual. I consider each wedding as a very important time in the life of each couple and I try to do whatever I can to make it very special.”

A review from a recent couple he worked with:

“Mr. Henderson was awesome. We are Catholic, but wanted to get married outside, so we didn’t go through the church. Mr. Henderson is a Reverend, and has his PhD in psychology as well (I think). He was so kind and loving- from my very first conversation on the phone with him, he told me what an important event this was, how serious he takes it, how honored he was to be a part of this day. He gave us awesome suggestions and ideas about the ceremony- very touching, unique things. I had more comments after the ceremony about how incredible it was- I was shocked. I don’t ever remember telling anyone what a great ceremony they had; I usually rave about the wedding in general. But so many people commented and complimented us on the ceremony, and this is due to Mr. Henderson. I highly, HIGHLY recommend such a kind, warm gentlemen to do their service!”

Outdoor Ceremony Sound Reinforcement

Many of today’s Brides are having an outdoor ceremony because it provides a more relaxed setting and circumvents many of the time restraints involved in a church ceremony but still accomplishing some of the religious aspects.

One overlooked part of the outdoor ceremony is the sound…. or lack thereof. Whilst having an outdoor ceremony may be romantic; the fact that your guests did not hear a word of those beautiful vows makes the whole event somewhat lacking.

It is critically important that your outdoor ceremony have reliable sound reinforcement that allows ALL your guests to hear the officiant and the Bride & Groom. Remember, depending on the location, outdoor events are at the mercy of the elements, birds, passing vehicles and a myriad of other distractions.

The DJ Network recommends that at least a lapel microphone attached to the officiant should be part of any outdoor ceremony system. Preferably, it is recommended to have a wireless microphone for a Reader and for the Groom – BUT we do not force the point, since many Grooms ask us NOT to wire them with a microphone.

The DJ Network ceremony sound systems set-up includes a speaker, mixing unit, Hard-drive music system with back-up and microphones, all neatly packaged in a discreet roadcase. And discreet is the key word… there is NO need for large two speaker systems on tripods that will undoubtedly distract your guests from what is supposed to be an intimate ceremony. We don’t want to be in any of the photographers pictures, so we work on the principal of being “heard, but not seen.”

Therefore, if your planning an outdoor Ceremony, with more than 25 guests, we strongly recommend that you NOT depend on a boom box or an iPod… get a professional sound system. It will be a valuable enhancement to your Ceremony that your guests will remember for years to come.
